"My horse loads fine but is anxious during travel!" Sound like a familiar problem? Does your horse load normally but sweats, stomps it's feet, paws or sways during travel?

Ginger is a well-researched herb, commonly used for travel sickness - both in humans (eg. TravelCalm) and dogs. Ginger's actions on the gastrointestinal system help to relieve nausea and indigestion, soothe the gut lining and is useful as a warming herb. It helps to increase circulation and can be used in cases of Insulin Resistance.
Humans and dogs can vomit if they get travel-sickness, but horse's can't vomit. So potentially, feelings of nausea may manifest as anxiety, sweating and fidgety behaviour.
Try feeding 1 tablespoon of ginger powder 30 minutes before travel and repeat during a long travel journey. Remember - herbs are not pharmaceutical drugs; herbs take time to make changes in the body, so try using the herb on several occasions to allow the horse to become accustomed. Gastric ulcers need to be managed as well which can be done naturally with products such as HoneyPro Vet GutPro and Omega 3 Horse Oils. Read more: www.honeyprovet.com.au
